Villa Elena is located in the Torre Soli Nou area of Son Bou, around 15 minutes' walk from the resort centre. This popular, vibrant resort has a fantastic variety of restaurants offering a lively atmosphere and good food. Son Bou is home to Menorca's longest beach, which has a couple of great laid-back beach bars where you can enjoy snacks and drinks during the day, as well as spectacular sunset views over dinner in the evening.
Local markets and shopping
There is a small mini market a short walk from the villa, within a nearby holiday complex, where you can pick up daily essentials. The resort centre has several larger mini markets for fresh food and BBQ supplies. Son Bou also has a good choice of souvenir and beachwear shops for those that enjoy a spot of holiday shopping!
Bars and restaurants
There are plenty of bars and restaurants within the resort, including 3 situated right on the beachfront - a lovely spot for dining alfresco with superb sunset views. In the centre you'll find a great choice of places to eat offering pizzas, fish, meats, tapas plates and even an Indian restaurant. For a fun night out, try the Hawaiian-style bar where waiters serve cocktails on roller skates!
At almost 3 miles long, the beach in Son Bou is the largest on the island. It has sunbeds and parasols for hire, plus, in the summer, banana boats and an inflatable water park just off the shore are also available. The beach is separated from the amenities by a protected nature reserve and therefore access to the seafront is via a walkway at the far end of the resort. You can reach the beach easily on foot from the resort centre, or there is a large parking area behind the sand if you prefer to drive.
An evening fun park opens during the summer with bouncy castles and fairground rides, plus the nearby San Jaime Complex has 2 water slides (a small fee applies to both). The hotels in the resort offer evening entertainment, tribute shows and mini discos open to all. Anyone with a hire car will also be able to reach any of the island's 3 waterparks as well as the popular Lloc de Menorca Zoo.
Places of interest
As Son Bou is centrally located along the South Coast of the island, it's a great base from which to explore. A short drive north is the magnificent Monte Toro - Menorca's highest point. The views from the peak are spectacular, and there's a great restaurant and gift shop too. You'll also be around 20 minutes' drive from the impressive harbour at Mahon, the second largest natural harbour in the world. The waterfront is lined with a huge choice of shops and stylish restaurants, and the town centre is great for shopping. Approximately 40 minutes in the other direction is Menorca's old capital town of Ciutadella, home to the island's only cathedral. Ciutadella also has a wonderful harbour and a never-ending choice of shops and places to eat.
The islands only golf course is in Son Parc, around 30 minutes' drive north of Son Bou.
A leisurely stroll along Son Bou Beach has views of the open sea on one side and the wild nature reserve on the other. This forms part of the Cami de Cavalls, a popular walking and cycling route around Menorca. Keen walkers can venture along the path into the next resort along the coast, Santo Tomas and even into Cala Galdana. It's possible to hire bikes in many of the resorts along the route and cycle a section. There's also horse riding facilities nearby.

El Toro, at 360 metres above sea level, is the highest peak on Menorca. In the centre of the island it towers above the small town of Es Mercadal. Take the time to drive up the steep 3.2km climb to the summit and see the whole of the island spread out beneath you. There are sea views on all four sides and, on a clear day, the view stretches to the north coast of Mallorca. The mountain is crowned by a convent which has become an important centre of pilgrimage and the neat vegetable and herb gardens beneath the terraces are still tended to by the community of nuns who live there. Visit the tiny chapel or have lunch in the rustic café and browse around the shop, packed with souvenirs and local produce.
